Toys must be cleaned and checked for missing pieces before return. Keep any toy with missing parts until found; otherwise, a $5 fine or replacement cost applies and must be paid before borrowing again.
All original packaging must be returned; otherwise, a replacement fee applies.
Overdue toys incur a $5 fine per week.
Members may hire up to 4 additional toys beyond their standard allowance, and/or tables and chairs for parties or events, for an extra fee.
Non-members may also hire up to 4 toys and/or tables and chairs for parties or events, with a fee plus a refundable bond.
Party hire items have a 1-week loan period.
All party hire is subject to availability and must be booked in advance.
Members are responsible for any damaged or missing pieces, unless the librarian is notified within 24 hours of borrowing. A $5 fine or replacement cost may apply.
Ride-ons are for children aged 6 and under only.
Toys are for personal use only and must not be borrowed on behalf of others outside your household.
Store toys safely indoors, including those designed for outdoor use.
All toys remain the property of the Onehunga Toy Library.
All toys must be returned by the end of the year (date confirmed annually) for stocktaking.
Toys may be hired during the summer holiday period for a small fee to support fundraising.
By applying for a duty membership, the member agrees to complete 3 rostered duties and select the dates for those duties.
Duty Members are required to sign up for their assigned duties on the official library calendar as part of both their initial membership registration and any subsequent renewals.
It is advised not to bring children while on duty.
Failure to complete at least 3 duties will result in a $30 fee for each missed duty. Non-payment or repeated absences may lead to membership termination.
If unable to fulfill a duty, the member must notify the librarian at least one week in advance or find a replacement.
Onehunga Toy Library (OTL) is committed to providing a safe borrowing environment and takes all reasonably practicable steps to ensure the quality and safety of its toys.
Members are responsible for:
Supervising children while using toys.
Ensuring toys are used according to their intended purpose and age suitability.
Reporting any safety concerns, faults, or incidents to the librarian promptly.
While OTL maintains its equipment to a high standard, members acknowledge they are primarily responsible for the safety of their children and family when using OTL toys and equipment, both on and off the premises. Children must be supervised at all times while inside the library.
The Onehunga Toy Library (OTL) is committed to protecting your privacy and complies with the Privacy Act 2020.
We are required to retain certain personal information for seven (7) years to meet legal, accounting, governance, and regulatory obligations. You may request access to, or correction of, your personal information at any time.
We collect and store Parent/Caregiver contact details to:
Manage memberships and toy loans
Communicate important updates and notices
Organise duty rosters (if applicable)
This information is accessible only to authorised OTL committee members, trustees, and employees.
Duty rosters may include member names and be made available to other members for coordination purposes.
Providing optional information—such as a child’s age, gender, and developmental needs—helps us improve our toy selection and better meet the needs of our members.
Membership will be deemed resigned if the annual subscription is not paid by the due date. Resigned members remain liable for any unpaid fines, fees, or other outstanding obligations.
Membership may also be terminated at the discretion of the committee for repeated failure to meet library responsibilities (e.g. duties, care of toys, or conduct).
We may update our membership fees, borrowing charges, or Terms and Conditions from time to time. If we do, we’ll post the changes on our website and let you know by email or at the library. By continuing to use the Onehunga Toy Library after the changes take effect, you agree to the new terms.
